MARTIN, Tenn. - Although putting up a balanced battle at UT Martin (5-6-3, 2-1-2), the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team (2-7-3, 1-3-1) ended the afternoon falling 1-0 on a late penalty kick call.
The Skyhawks of UT Martin kicked off the match pressuring EIU's defense. Goalkeeper
Ella Kratochvil needed to make an early appearance, as her first save came in the 5th minute. As the game settled and EIU held off UT Martin's initial pressure, the Panthers were able to offer some danger on the counters with shots on target from
Cam Korhorn,
Kya Trejo, and
Avery Richardson. Kratochvil ended the half with seven saves to help EIU secure the scoreless draw at the end of the initial half.
EIU came back to the second half equilibrating the offensive actions, as both teams were able to keep the ball and create scoring opportunities. EIU's best chance came when
Alex Tetteh scored a goal that was invalidated because of a handball called earlier in the play. With only five minutes left in the game, UT Martin found its goal with a penalty kick converted by Catey Hunt, 1-0.
Kratochvil ended the match with a season high of eleven saves in net for the Panthers.
Up next: The Panthers will end its series of three matches on road with an in-state contest at Western Illinois on Thursday, Oct 12th.
