O'FALLON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Wednesday afternoon capturing the doubles point against Saint Louis but could not carry that momentum over to singles action as the Panthers lost 5-2 at the St. Clair Racquet Club.

After SLU won at No. 2 doubles, EIU evened the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles by
Christine Gouws and
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova. The Panthers would then clinch the overall doubles point with a 6-3 win by
Lauren Ellis and
Jemma Booth at No. 3 doubles.

Saint Louis evened the score at 1-1 with a win at the No. 4 position to open singles play. Bukraba-Ulanova then pushed the EIU lead out to 2-1 in the match with her win at No. 2 singles over Norhan Hesham. Bukraba-Ulanova won in two sets 6-3, 6-2.

SLU would then gain momentum winning the remaining four singles points to take the match. The deciding match was at No. 5 singles with Mya Spencer beating
Brittany Steven 6-3, 6-4.

EIU fell to 3-5 on the season and will travel to Bradley on Saturday. SLU improved to 6-1 on the season.Â
