DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis turned a long day into a pair of wins on Saturday as the Panthers beat both Saint Francis (Ill.) and Quincy at the Danville Tennis Center.
EIU opened the day with a 7-0 win over Saint Francis before a 4-1 win over Quincy to close out the night and improve to 2-1 on the season.
EIU dominated the morning match winning all three doubles matches by scores of 6-0.
The Panthers then won all six singles matches in two sets.
Alex Dinkov was dominant at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Thomas Wallace and
Antonio Ayerbe Streubel both posted 6-1, 6-0 wins playing at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for EIU.
In the evening match EIU would clinch the match with Dinkov's win at No. 4 singles as he posted a three-set win over Ettore Pavesi. Dinkov won 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
EIU opened the match winning the doubles point with
Tyler Carlin and Wallace picking up a big 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 2 doubles.
Pau Riera and
Max Pilipovic-Kljajic won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Riera and Wallace added singles wins for EIU in the nightcap. Riera won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3 while Wallace won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Cameron Slabbert at No. 1 singles and Streubel at No. 6 singles had their matches left unfinished.
EIU returns to action on Feb. 10 at Northern Kentucky.
