DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis picked up a pair of wins hosting Millikin on Wednesday at the Danville Tennis Center. EIU won the opening match 7-0 and then took the nightcap 6-1 to improve to 6-7 on the season.
In the opener EIU won all three doubles matches with
Brittany Steven and
Madeline Monroy clinching the doubles point for the Panthers with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, EIU won five of the six matches in two sets.
Jemma Booth needed a third set to beat Alexandra Ristfeldt playing at No. 3 singles. Booth won 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 giving the Panthers a 5-0 lead in the match.
Christine Gouws win at No. 1 singles over Nikol Obradovic clinched the match. Gouws won 6-0, 6-2 that gave EIU the 4-0 lead.
In the second match, EIU again swept all three doubles matches with Booth and
Lauren Ellis winning at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, to lock up the doubles point for EIU.
EIU would again win five of the six singles matches in two sets. Ellis moved up to play at No. 4 singles and clinched the match for EIU with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Katarina Carlberg.
Claire Perez-Korinko picked up her first win of the season playing at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Destiny Galvan.
