INDIANAPOLIS – Eastern Illinois closed out a successful week with a 6-1 win over IUPUI on Sunday evening at the West Indy Racquet Club.
EIU rallied to win the doubles point after IUPUI won at No. 3 doubles, then the Panthers evened the doubles point with a win at No. 1 doubles by
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova and
Christine Gouws. EIU then clinched the doubles with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles by
Madeline Monroy and
Brittany Steven.
IUPUI won the first point in singles play before the Panthers closed out the final five points in singles action.
Jemma Booth clinched the overall match for EIU with her win at No. 3 singles. Booth won in three sets over Samantha Hayward 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Monroy (No. 5), Steven (No. 4) and Bukraba-Ulanova (No. 2) picked up two set wins for EIU. Gouws added the final win of the match at No. 1 singles winning 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) over Makenzie Myers.
EIU improved to 7-7 on the season with a 3-0 record this week.Â
