ORLANDO, Fla. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis picked up its eighth win of the season as the Panthers beat both the rain and Lehigh on Monday morning in Orlando, Fla. EIU won the match 5-2.
Due to expected the rain in the area during the day and evening, the two schools move up their match to play at 7:30 am on Monday morning starting with singles play.
EIU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the match with wins at No. 3, No. 6 and No. 1 singles.
Jemma Booth posted the first win at No. 3 singles winning 6-1, 6-1 over Allyce Gaborik.
Lauren Ellis followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Helena Cilella.
Christine Gouws collected the third win of the match for EIU at No. 1 singles with a three set win over Hamsa Javagal. Gouws won 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
Lehigh then won at No. 4 and No. 2 singles to close the match score to 3-2.
Madeline Monroy clinched the match for the Panthers with her seventh straight win of the season. Monroy won in three sets over Anushka Dania – 7-6 (7-5), 0-6, 6-3.
In doubles play EIU locked up the final point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Ellis and
Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova won at No. 3 doubles 6-0. Gouws and
Addison Brown won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
EIU opens Ohio Valley Conference play this Saturday hosting Southern Indiana.
