DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis won four straight singles matches with
Thomas Wallace clinching the match for the Panthers at No. 5 singles as EIU edged Lindenwood 4-3 on Saturday evening at the Danville Tennis Center.
EIU moved to 5-8 on the season, 1-2 in the Horizon League.  Lindenwood is now also 1-2 in Horizon League play and 3-5 overall.
The Lions won the doubles point clinching with a tie-break win at No. 3 doubles. EIU won at No. 1 doubles with
Cameron Slabbert and Wallace winning 6-3. Lindenwood took the No. 2 doubles match 6-1 and then the No. 3 doubles point 7-6 (7-5).
Lindenwood then went up 2-0 in the match with a win by Fernando Martin Paz at No. 4 singles.
Tyler Carlin began the Panthers rally in singles play securing the first point for EIU with a two set win at No. 3 singles. Carlin beat Alonso De Prada 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.
Pau Riera tied the match at 2-2 with his win at No. 2 singles beating Anton de la Puente 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.
Slabbert gave the Panthers their first lead in the match with a three-set win at No. 1 singles. Slabbert beat Carlos Rodriguez Gonzalez 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Wallace would win the match for EIU at No. 5 singles beating Mattis Lamm in two sets 6-4, 6-3.
