Men's Track & Field Adds Five For Next Season

Panthers add to sprint and jumps group

Eastern Illinois director of track and field Keith Roberts has added to the Panthers men's roster for the upcoming season with the addition of five student-athletes that bring with them multiple state championship appearances and several state championships.
 
The group includes Daniel Lacy, Billy Bailey, Nathan Kirby, Landon Webb and Cameron Howard.
 
Lacy (Champaign, Ill.) competed in track and field at Centennial High School helping power his team to a third place team finish at the IHSA Class 3A State Championships.  Lacy was the Class 3A State Champion in all three sprint races winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.69, the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.51 and the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.28.  During his senior indoor season Lacy was the champion at the Illinois Class 3A Top Times meet in the 200 meter dash while placing second in the 60 meter sprint.  As a junior Lacy advanced to the state championships in three events landing on the podium in the 400 meter dash, 4x100 meter relay and 4x400 meter relay.  Individually he placed fifth in the state in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.23.  The 4x100 relay team placed third in the state and the 4x400 relay team was sixth.   Lacy reached the IHSA Class 3A State Championships as a sophomore in the 400 meter dash. 
 
Bailey (Joliet, Ill.) competed in track and field at Joliet West High School.  As a senior he had a breakout season advancing to the IHSA Class 3A State Championships in three different individual sprint events.   Bailey had a podium finish in the 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter sprints at this past year's outdoor state meet.  He was second in the state the 400 meters with a finals time of 47.28.  Bailey finished fourth in the state in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash.  His finals time in the 100 meter was 10.94 while his finals time in the 200 meter was 21.89.  During his senior indoor season Bailey placed in the top three in all three sprint events at the Illinois Class 3A Top Times meet.  He was second in the 200 meter and 400 meter events while placing third in the 100 meter dash.  Bailey also competes for the Prestige Athletic Club where he completed in the New Balance Nationals Outdoor in 2023 and at the USATF Illinois Junior Olympic Championships in 2022.
 
Kirby (Catlin, Ill.) competed in track and field at Salt Fork High School helping the program win back-to-back IHSA Class 1A State Championships after a second place team finish during his sophomore year.  As a senior he was the Class 1A state champion in the 110 meter hurdles and on the 4x200 meter relay team. He posted a finals winning time of 14.28 in the 110 meter hurdles.  He would run the anchor leg on the state championship team with a relay time of 1:28.69.  Kirby was on the 4x100 relay team that placed fifth in the state his senior year.  During his junior year Kirby was a member of the silver medal 4x100 meter relay and 4x200 meter relay teams while placing third in the state in the 200 meters.  He also qualified for the state meet in the 110 meter hurdles.  His 200 meter finals time was 22.81 while the 4x100 relay team crossed in 43.26 and the 4x200 relay team posted a time of 1:30.38.  As a sophomore he was a member of the state champion 4x200 meter relay team as part of a four-event state qualifying run.  The champion relay team had a time of 1:31.0.  He was part of the 4x100 relay team that was second in the state.  Individually he was fourth in the state in the 110 meter hurdles and qualified in the 300 meter hurdles.
 
Webb (Vienna, Ill.) competed in track and field at Vienna High School.  He was a two-time IHSA Class 1A State Championships qualifier in the high jump.  As a senior he placed 15th in the state after a 24th place state finish as a junior.   He cleared a season best height of 6'5" his senior season and won the Bluford Webber Sectional with a height of 6'2".  As a junior he was the Fairfield Sectional Champion clearing a height of 6'4".   Webb also ran the 100 meter dash and 300 meter hurdles as a track athlete.  During his senior season he lettered in cross country placing competing at the Benton Sectional. 
 
Howard (Jasper, Ind.) competed in track and field at Jasper High School.  As a senior he had a season best long jump mark of 21'3.50" which is the second best mark in his school's history.  He would win the Jasper Sectional in the long jump and advance to compete in the Evansville Central Regional.  Howard is a 6'4" athlete that also lettered in basketball and football during his prep career joining the track program late in his career. 
 
The EIU men's track & field team won the Ohio Valley Conference indoor track championship this past season.
