DeKalb, Ill, - Eastern Illinois women's soccer fights hard, but falls to NIU Thursday night, 3-0.
EIU once again showed good organization defensively as the Panthers held several of NIU's attacks during the initial half. The Huskies only struck midway through the first half when Lea Gruennagel scored off a free kick outside of the eighteen yard box. Still in the first half,
Cami Lummus added EIU's only shot on goal.
Offensively, the second half had more success than the first as EIU kept possession on the attacking third more often. As the Panthers moved the ball to try to find looks on the offensive portion of the field, the Huskies took advantage of the counters. In the 62nd minute Tyra King found NIU's second goal, and twenty minutes later, Isabel Strubel added the final goal of the night.
EIU is now 1-2 on the season while NIU improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, taking on Indiana State at Lakeside Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
