Charleston, Ill. - The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team kicked off an afternoon of soccer at Lakeside Field with a 1-1 dramatic draw against the Eagles of Morehead State. The Panthers are now 2-5-3 in the season, and 1-1-1 in the OVC. Morehead State sits at 2-0-2 in the OVC and 3-4-5 overall.
The fans who attended the match witnessed a scoreless first half with little attacking action from both teams. The Panthers and the Eagles concentrated their effort on keeping a good shape defensively and possessing the ball, but with no room for creativity on the final third of the field.
In the second half, both teams became more open to risks, as finding the goal was the ultimate reward. With the offensive mindset, Morehead State ended first up on the scoreboard with Colleen Swift. The Eagle's goal came in the 67th minute of the match. EIU did not go down easily, as the Panthers kept fighting in search of the equalizing goal. With only twenty five seconds left on the clock,
Abby Reinl crossed the ball into the box, and
Ella Onstott concluded the play with a bottom right header to give the Panthers the equalizer, 1-1.
Goalkeeper
Ella Kratochvil made two saves for EIU, as Eastern Illinois outshot Morehead State 12-6.
Next up: The Panthers are back on the road to face Tennessee Tech on Sunday, Oct. 1st. Kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
