Volleyball Falls 1-3 At Morehead State

Destiny Walker leads team in kills and digs

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team (8-17, 4-11 OVC) dropped their Thursday night road contest at Morehead State (13-13, 9-6 OVC) by a score of 1-3. Destiny Walker had another strong two-way performance as she posted her fourth double-double of conference play.

The Panthers fell into an early four-point hole in the opening set before using a 7-2 burst to take their first lead of the evening. However, the Eagles responded with a 7-2 run of their own to go back up by four. Following a timeout, Eastern outscored Morehead 12-2 down the stretch to take the set. Matilda Dahlström, Kaitlyn Flynn, and Destiny Walker posted three kills each to lead EIU in the frame.

The Panthers gained a slim two-point advantage early in the second set, but following a 6-0 Morehead State run, Eastern found themselves trailing 15-11. EIU was unable to claw their way out of this four-point deficit as the Eagles evened up the match. Dahlström recorded three more kills to lead the Panthers in the set.

Morehead carried their momentum to an early lead in the third frame, which they eventually stretched to as many as nine points. The Panthers made a late push to cut the lead down to three, but could not complete the comeback as the Eagles went ahead two sets to one. Walker led Eastern in the set with three kills.

Eastern took another brief lead in set four, but after going ahead 6-5, Morehead State never relinquished their advantage to secure the set and match. Destiny Walker led the Panthers again with three kills in the frame.

Walker finished the match with a team-high 11 total kills while also posting a team-leading 13 digs.

Ireland Hieb and Julia Stanev both had strong showings in the middle with six kills and four blocks apiece.
