BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois extended its Ohio Valley Conference win streak to seven games with a weekend sweep over Western Illinois.
Briana Gonzalez played a role in that at the plate and on Monday afternoon was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.
Gonzalez registered hits in five of the Panthers six games for the week and drove in runs in four contests as EIU went 5-1, 3-0 in OVC play. She hit .500 (7-for-14) with 19 total plate appearances for the week without a strike out. The junior drew three walks with a sacrifice fly and sacrifice bunt added to her weekly totals. Gonzalez had two home runs with seven RBI and a stolen base, finishing the week with a .556 on-base percentage and .929 slugging percentage.
For the season Gonzalez is hitting .322 with four home runs and 23 RBI. As a team EIU is now 22-9, 8-1 in the OVC as they head to SIUE for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday.
