Eastern Illinois men's basketball coach Marty Simmons has added the final piece to the Panthers roster for the upcoming season with the addition of transfer guard Malik Olafioye.

Olafioye (6-2 / 190) played his freshman season at Kansas City appearing in nine games missing the second half of the season.   He averaged 1.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game for the Roos program with a season high four rebounds against St. Mary.  Olafioye scored a season high four points in his college debut against Avila.

"Malik is a talented guard that was a productive scorer at the high school level.  He will add to the depth at our guard position and provide a different look than some of the other guys already on the roster," said Simmons.  "I look forward to the semester getting underway and having Malik here as part of our EIU Panther basketball family."

He comes to EIU from Ecorse, Mich., and was a three-star prospect across all major recruiting services after ranking in the Top 15 in career scoring for the state of Michigan with more than 2,200 points.  He was nationally ranked #149 by Prep Hoops and the top ranked recruit in Michigan.   Olafioye averaged nearly 30-points a game (29.6 ppg) for his three-year varsity career finishing as the 2022-23 AP 3A Michigan Player of the Year.  He was a Michigan Mr. Basketball nominee and a Gatorade Player of the Year nominee.  During his high school career, Olafioye led his team to the state semifinals.

In addition to his success on the court, Olafioye earned Academic All-State honors from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.
