Eastern Illinois Athletics has announced the hiring of Craig Toler as the Panthers new head coach for men's and women's golf.

Toler joins the EIU staff replacing Mike Moncel who retired on August 1 after leading the programs for 25-years

Toler played collegiate golf at both Parkland College and Southern Indiana.  He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Illinois and then served as an assistant coach with Moncel for ten years.  During that time EIU produced several All-Ohio Valley Conference performers and top ten performances on the course.

"I am very excited about the opportunity.  This is a job that I thought to myself that I would be interested in if Mike (Moncel) ever gave it up or retired," said Toler.  "I look forward to getting here and coaching the players we currently have on our rosters and then recruiting aggressively to get new players in.  I want to thank Dr. Jay Gatrell, Athletic Director Tom Michael and the search committee for giving me this opportunity."

Following his time as an assistant coach at EIU, Toler worked at the high school and junior high levels at both Teutopolis and Sullivan coaching a number of sports including boy's basketball and girl's golf.  In addition he has worked privately in the insurance field.  He earned his degree from EIU in 2007.

"I would like to welcome Craig and his wife Teresa back to the Eastern Illinois athletic family," said EIU Athletic Director Tom Michael.  "Having been a former assistant with the program he has a good understanding of where the EIU golf program currently is and the potential it has to grow under his leadership in the coming years."
