Eastern Illinois men's tennis opened its 2025 spring season on Saturday morning with a 7-0 loss at Texas Tech in the first of two matches against Red Raiders slated for the day. Texas Tech then won the evening match by an identical 7-0 match.
TTU won the doubles point winning 6-2 at both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with TTU leading EIU 5-3 with
William Hays and
Gui Cauvilla playing in that spot in order.
In singles play Texas Tech claimed all five matches in straight sets.Â
Ludolph Wiggett battled at No. 2 singles losing 6-4, 6-3 to Niksa Arsic.Â
In the evening match Texas Tech again won the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles with the No. 3 match left unfinished. Hays and Cauvilla were tied 6-6 with Felipe Pagnacco and Brody Nejedly-Krall when the Red Raiders decided the point with wins in the other two matches.Â
Tyler Carlin and
Duarte Trocado pushed their No. 1 doubles match to a 7-5 decision before losing.
In singles play Wiggett was again solid at No. 2 singles taking his match to three sets. He would fall to Ludovico Vaccarri by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Carlin playing in the No. 3 singles spot lost a tie break in the opening set of a two set loss to Thiago Gugliere falling 7-6 (7-2), 6-0.
EIU returns to action on Sunday evening with a match at Illinois State.Â
