MACOMB, Ill. – Eastern Illinois suffered its first Ohio Valley Conference loss of the season as the Panthers fell on the road Thursday night, 62-52, at Western Illinois.
Lalani Ellis tied the game at 35-35 with 4:16 to play in the third quarter. That would be EIU's final points of the quarter as the Leathernecks closed the quarter on a 15-0 run to lead 50-35 after 30 minutes of action.
EIU opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run cutting the lead to nine points. EIU trimmed the lead down to seven with a
Macy McGlone lay-up with 5:20 to play as WIU led 54-47. The Panthers could not get any closer in the final five minutes.
McGlone led EIU with 16 points. Ellis added ten as EIU fell to 13-7 overall, 10-1 in the OVC.
WIU improved to 11-9 overall, 5-6 in the OVC. Raegan McCown had 23 points for WIU with Mia Nicastro added 20 as the pair combined for all 15 points in the decisive third quarter run.
The Panthers trailed 28-26 at the half. EIU held a 41-38 rebound margin in the game including 16 offensive rebounds.Â
