Track and Field Powers Through Weekend

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois Track and Field team found success across two different meets throughout the weekend. EIU recorded ten podium finishes at Grand Valley on Friday while three more Panthers found the podium at the Indiana State Blue/White Alumni Classic on Saturday afternoon.

GVSU Big Meet
Tyler Dillon and Ayden Cothern both competed during the early section of Friday's meet, as Dillon was able to claim third in the 800m after recording a time of 1:54.61 while Cothern crossed the finish line in 22.13 in the 200m race. In addition, Cale Smith continued the Panther's track efforts, earning a first-place finish in the one-mile run after logging a time of 4:11.21 Sam Bradbury dominated the field open divisions, claiming a personal record and finishing in first place for both the weight throw and shot put. Bradbury notched a distance of 18.38m in weight throw while reaching a distance of 16.46m in the shot put.

The EIU jumpers manufactured a ton of success, as Ramsey Hunt, Angela Dobbins, and Abraham Johnson all claimed a top-three finish in the later part of the afternoon. Hunt continues his 2024-25 crusade, jumping a season-best 7.70m to claim first and move into the 19th spot on the national long jump season record list. Furthermore, Angela Dobbins earned the silver medal in the high jump open division after recording a personal best 1.68m. Johnson's day consisted of two podium finishes, notching a personal best 15.20m in the triple jump open division to earn first place as well as reaching a height of 1.98m in the high jump to place third.

Indiana State Blue/White Alumni Classic
Saturday's slate featured another portion of the EIU track and field athletes, as Taji Malik-Akinremi ran a season-best time of 7.05 in the 60m race to claim a third-place finish. In addition, David Tuala secured his personal record in the 200m race as he was able to cross the finish line in 23.65 to earn bronze. Julia Monson wrapped up the evening for the Panthers, also securing her personal best 10:33.50 in the 3000m run as she finished in second place.
