CHARLESTON, Ill - Eastern Illinois Track and Field's Abraham Johnson was named the OVC Indoor Track Co-Male Freshman Athlete of the Year after his performance during the 2024-25 indoor season. Johnson shares the award with Little Rock's Morcellous Harris.

Johnson earns the award after a strong inaugural season in Charleston, where he was named a three-time OVC Freshman Athlete of the week. His first OVC Male Freshman of the Week award was given after a strong performance in the triple jump at the Fighting Illini Challenge where he recorded a distance of 14.71m and finished in third place.

Shortly after, Johnson earned third place in the high jump at the DePaul Blue Demon Classic where he cleared a height of 2.01m to earn his second honor of the indoor season. His final OVC Freshman of the Week selection was awarded after his performance at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, Feb. 14 where he dominated the triple jump with a distance of 15.20m and earned the top pot on the podium.

Johnson finished out the season with his best performances, recording personal bests in both the high jump (2.02m) and triple jump (15.60m) at the OVC Indoor Track and Field Championships. These marks also put him at the top of the OVC leaderboard in the long jump while sliding into fourth place in the high jump.
