Panthers walk away with 10 medalists

OVC Indoor Championships - Results

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois Track and Field team wrapped up their indoor season with the conclusion of the OVC Indoor Championships at the Indiana Farm Bureau Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind. The Panther Men's team finished in third place with a total of 134 points while the women's team finished in fifth with 55.5 points. EIU would conclude the two-day event with 10 athletes who earned individual medals.

Day One
The field events and distance runners headlined day one of the OVC Championships as the sprinters and mid-distance runners spent the first day in qualifying races. EIU featured five athletes who went home with hardware and finished top three in their respective events.

Abby Venhaus ignited the Panther jumpers, securing the first medal of the day for Eastern Illinois as she earned silver in the long jump after reaching a distance of 5.81m. Elijah Skutt followed suit later in the evening, battling through the high jump to place second and earn silver after reaching a height of 2.05m.

Ramsey Hunt wrapped up his decorated career in Charleston, jumping a distance of 7.67m to earn a gold medal in the long jump. Hunt defends his 1st team's Indoor All-OVC Long Jump award from a season ago, sitting at the top of the season record list and separated by second place by almost a foot.

Matthew Gladieux and Joe Stoddard were the final two Panthers to find the podium on day one, both earning bronze in their events. Gladieux finished with a distance of 17.38m in the weight throw while Stoddard crossed the finish line in 14:44.08 in the 5000m race.

Day Two
Day two featured five more Panther athletes who were able to find the podium and earn championship hardware.

Isabella Fabrizio was the only EIU field athlete to receive a medal on day two, securing silver in the shot put after recording a distance of 13.45m. Emily Sykes also earned points in the shot put for the Panthers, coming in fourth place after throwing a distance of 12.94m.

Matthew Gladieux, Sam Bradbury, Alex Stout, and Kaden Salisbury posted a strong effort in the shot put, claiming the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place spots to earn additional points and help the EIU men's team climb the leaderboard.

Additionally, Abraham Johnson and Daniel Lacy each went home with gold as they claimed the top spot on the podium for their respective event. Johnson's mark of 15.60m allowed him to take first in the triple jump as Lacy's time of 48.17 propelled him into the top spot in the 400m race.

Furthermore, Ramsey Hunt, Enoch-Appiah Kubi and Taryn Tarquin each found themselves in the middle of the pack for the triple-jump further aid the team's overall score.

Ayden Cothern stood at the front of the EIU 200m efforts, recording a time of 21.40 to claim third place. Cale Smith concluded the evening for the Panthers, also earning a bronze medal after posting a time of 4:13.43 in the mile run.
