Football Adds Two On February Signing Day

Area products Kimbo and VanDeveer join program

Eastern Illinois football head coach Chris Wilkerson added two local products to the Panthers program with the February National Signing Day on February 5.

Set to join the EIU program are linebackers Cale Kimbro from Mattoon and Brock VanDeveer from Mahomet-Seymour.

The two join a high school class of ten that signed in December and 16 mid-year transfers to the program at the start of the spring semester.

EIU will begin spring football practice in late March with the 2025 Spring Football Game set for Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at O'Brien Field.

February Recruit Information

Cale Kimbro (LB, 6-1, 205, Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon HS) – Played football at Mattoon High School ending career playing for father Jarad Kimbro who is a former football player at Eastern Illinois… was named an IHSFCA 5A All-State selection as a senior playing as a two-way player starting at both linebacker and wide receiver… also named All-Area by Decatur Herald Review while earning All-Apollo Conference honors (1st team linebacker / 2nd team wide receiver)… ended year with 119 tackles on defense and 954 All-Purpose yards on offense…

Brock VanDeveer (LB, 6-1, 210, Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour HS) – Played football at Mahomet-Seymour High School for coach Jon Adkins... was named an IHSFCA 5A All-State selection as a senior playing as a two-way player starting at both defensive back and running back… will move to linebacker position at the collegiate level…  finished season with 47 tackles an interception and two forced fumbles anchoring a defense that allowed 30 points total in Apollo Conference play… added four rushing touchdowns as a running back on offense… lettered in wrestling…
