Softball Splits Two Games On FIU Classic Day Two

Panthers beat Toledo, fall to Bradley

Eastern Illinois softball split a pair of games on day two of the FIU Softball Classic in Miami, Fla.   EIU beat Toledo 9-1 in the opener before falling 7-1 to Bradley in the second game of the day as EIU is now 7-12 overall.

EIU 9, TOLEDO 1 (6 inn.)
Eastern Illinois broke open a close game with three runs in the fourth and then three decisive runs in the sixth to beat Toledo 9-1 in six innings.

McKenzie Oslanzi (4-6) tossed a complete game allowing only one unearned Toledo run in the first inning.  Oslanzi scattered six hits and stranded Toledo runners at third base in the fourth and sixth innings.

Leading 2-1 entering the fourth inning, EIU loaded the bases with one out and scored its first run on a wild pitch.  Abbey Crain drove home the next two runs of the inning with a single to left center.

In the sixth Maddux Marshall led off the inning drawing her third walk of the game.  Crain followed with a walk with both players scoring on a single to right by Alisha Frederick.  Frederick was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the game.

Jenna Teakert drove home the run to end the game with a single to right.  Kendall Grover joined Frederick as Panthers with multiple hits in the game going 2-for-4.

Kylee Graham (2-4) took the loss for the Rockets as they fell to 5-6 this season.  Samantha Bolding was 3-for-3 to lead the Toledo offense.

BRADLEY 7, EIU 1
Bradley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning providing Braves starter Sydney Kenne (4-6) all the offensive support she needed during a 7-1 win over EIU.

Kenne held the Panthers to just one hit with Alisha Frederick leading off the fourth with a double to left center.  After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brianna Gonzalez, Karson Davey grounded out to drive in the Panthers lone run.

Kendall Grover and Marshall Maddux were the only other two Panthers to reach base with both hit by pitches.

Morgan Schlo had the big first inning hit for the Braves driving in two runs with a single up the middle.  Olivia Turne drove in the next run in the inning.  Turne was 2-for-4 in the game, one of four Bradley players with multiple hits.

After scoring one run in the fourth, Bradley put the game away with three runs in the fifth.  Ashley Breed and Turne both had RBI in the inning.  Breed led the Braves with three hits.

Karlie McKenzie (2-3) took the loss for EIU.  Bradley improved to 6-11 on the season.
