Eastern Illinois men's tennis split a pair of Friday matches in St. Louis with a tough 4-3 loss at Missouri St. Louis before bouncing back for a 5-2 afternoon win over Maryville.
UMSL 4, EIU 3
Eastern Illinois opened the match winning the doubles point as the Panthers picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.Ā
Pieke Bouman and
Duarte Trocado won 6-4 to start the doubles wins at No. 3 doubles with
Zach White and
Tyler Carlin clinching the match with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
EIU would go up 3-0 in the match with wins by Carlin at No. 5 singles and Trocado at No. 6 singles.Ā Carlin won 7-6 (7-4) , 6-4 over Henry Roberts.Ā Trocado won in three sets over Joan Garros winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
UMSL then won four straight points in singles play with three-set wins at the top four spots in the playing order.Ā The final deciding match was Alejandro Ley beating
Alex Aldaz at No. 1 singles in the final contest with Ley winning 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5).
EIU 5, Maryville 2
In the second match EIU again jumped out with a point winning the doubles point.Ā The Panthers won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.Ā
Alex Aldaz and
Ludolph Wiggett won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.Ā
Tyler Carlin and
Zach White won 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.
The Panthers collected four of the six points in singles play to pick up their fifth team win of the year.Ā
Pieke Bouman won at No. 1 singles over Lorenzo Biava winning 6-3, 6-1.
Carlin won at No. 3 singles over Michael Delaloye winning 6-3, 6-4.
Duarte Trocado won in three sets over Jack Quilty at No. 5 singles.Ā Trocado won 2-6, 6-1, 7-6.
William Hays won in three sets at No. 6 singles over Diego Alvarez.Ā Hays won in three sets 7-6, 6-7, 7-5.
