Eastern Illinois men's tennis got off to a good start in its Horizon League opener as the Panthers clinched the doubles point. Â

Tennessee State then won five straight singles matches to win the match 5-2 as EIU took the final singles point in three sets.

Zach White and
Tyler Carlin won the first doubles match for the Panthers with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

EIU clinched the overall point with a win at No. 3 doubles as
Pieke Bouman and
Duarte Trocado won 6-3 to seal the doubles point win.

In singles play TSU won the first five matches with two set wins in all five victories. Â
Tyler Carlin did push his second set at No. 5 singles against Alexander Ademec to a tie-break before falling 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

Zach White picked up the final EIU point with a three-set win at No. 3 singles over James Adler Germinal.  White won 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 7-5.

EIU is now 5-16 overall, 0-1 in the Horizon League. TSU is 3-9 overall, 1-0 in the Horizon League.
