CHARLESTON,  Ill. – The Eastern Illinois Track and Field team wrapped up its first weekend of the outdoor season with the conclusion of the WashU Distance Carnival at Olympic Field in St. Louis, Mo. and the Pacesetter Invitational at Gibson Track & Field Complex in Terre Haute, Ind. The Panthers finished the weekend with a number of podium finishes and personal records.
WashU Distance Carnival (RESULTS)
Four EIU distance runners manufactured success over the course of the two day meet.Â
Kylie Haacke posted a strong 10,000m race with a time of 37:05.56 to grab the ninth spot on the board as
Olivia Esche followed close behind and crossed the finish line in 40:57.25 to finish in 19th. Â
Mason Stoegner and
Michael Atkins led the charge for the men in the 10,000m race. Stoegner posted a time of 33:17.09 to finish in the 11th spot as Atkins was able to finish 14th after racing a time of 32.05.96.Â
Pacesetter Invitational (RESULTS)
The Panthers' weekend efforts continued as they were able to find six podium finishes on Saturday at Indiana State.
Shawn Lacy started the day with a third-place finish in the javelin throw, reaching a distance of 52.41m. Shortly after,
Rylea Borgic and
Chloe Proffitt dominated the women's 5000m run as Borgic earned second place with a time of 18:12.23 and Proffitt earned fourth with a time of 18:49.44.
Jahleel Perrin,
Daniel Lacy, and
Isai Morales added to EIU's success on the track, as Perrin crossed the finish line in 10.70 in the 100m dash to earn the third-place spot. Lacy's time of 21.22 in the 200m earned him fourth place while Morales notched a fifth place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:54.89.
Eastern Illinois' men's 4x100m relay team, comprised of
Jahleel Perrin,
Daniel Lacy,
Ayden Cothern, and Billy Bailey, earned a silver medal after recording a time of 41.80. The Panthers' women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of
Abby Venhaus,
Devin Johnston,
Kenyetietta Quinn, and
Angela Dobbins, also ran strong, finishing in fourth place after posting a time of 47.44.
Taryn Tarquin and
Ethan McBride wrapped up the evening for EIU, securing first-place finishes in the triple jump. Tarquin reached a distance of 11.65m to claim the top spot on the podium as McBride notched a jump of 13.47 on his second attempt to secure gold.
Personal Records
Three Panther athletes recorded new personal records in their respective events.
Macie Russell crossed the finish line in 2:23.13 to earn her personal best in the 800m run.
Sam Bradbury also earned a personal record in the discuss after recording a toss of 50.31m.
McBride's mark of 13.47 stands as his personal record in the triple jump as
Alex Stout was the final Panther athlete to PR at Saturday's meet, earning new records in the hammer throw (54.05m) and the shot put (16.28m) notching a toss of 54.05 in the hammer throw.
