SIUE snapped Eastern Illinois softball's ten game Ohio Valley Conference win streak on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 win over the Panthers on EIU's senior day at Williams Field.
Â
EIU honored seniors
Briana Gonzalez,
Abbey Crain and
Sophie Cerveny following the game as the loss dropped EIU to 26-18 overall, 17-4 in the OVC.  SIUE is also 26-18 overall and now 16-5 in the OVC.
Â
The Cougars scored in the first as the first six batters of the game reached base for SIUE.  The Panthers erased two of them with
Sophia Olman throwing out two runners on stolen base attempts. Anna Henderson drove in the SIUE run in the inning with a single through the right side.
Â
SIUE extended its lead to 2-0 in the third with a solo home run by Kaylynn Salyars, one of two hits she had in the game as SIUE had only six for the game against EIU starter
McKenzie Oslanzi (15-11).
Â
Avery Arwood (11-7) pitched out of several situations and had her defense help her in the bottom of the fourth. Crain hit a bases loaded single to shallow left field scoring one run, before Kaylin Fahy threw out what would have been the tying run at the time at the plate.
Â
The Cougars added an insurance run with an RBI double by Salyars in the fifth.Â
Â
Cerveny was the lone Panther with multiple hits going 2-for-3.
