Eastern Illinois men's tennis dropped the first of two Saturday matches in Nashville falling to Middle Tennessee, 7-0. The Blue Raiders entered the match No. 44 in the ITA rankings.
MTSU won the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles with the No. 2 doubles match featuring
Alex Aldaz and
Duarte Trocado left unfinished with the Panthers doubles team trailing 4-2.
Middle Tennessee would go on to win all six singles matches in two sets. Aldaz pushed his opening set at No. 2 singles to a tie-break before falling. He lost 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 to Shu Matsuoka.
At number five singles Trocado battled against Ig Mandou Berranger before dropping his match 6-2, 6-4.
In the Panthers second match of the day in Music City, Eastern Illinois fell to SEC member Vanderbilt 7-0. The Commodores are currently ranked No. 58 by the ITA.
Vanderbilt won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with EIU's tandem of
Pieke Bouman and
Michael Schut trailing 4-2.
In singles play Vanderbilt won all six matches in two sets. Bouman pushed his opening set at No. 1 singles to a tie-break before falling 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 to Nathan Cox.
Alex Aldaz forced a tie-break in his opening set for the second time on Saturday playing at No. 2 singles. Aldaz lost 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to Dylan Charlap.
William Hays was competitive in the final match at No. 6 singles falling to Oscar Jensen 6-0, 6-4.
