Women's Track & Field Adds Nine For Next Season

Panthers bolster roster with state qualifiers

With the IHSA Girls Track & Field State Championship concluding last week, Eastern Illinois head coach James Gildon has announced the addition of nine athletes to the Panthers women's track and field squad with several in action at O'Brien Field last week.  A couple of additional incoming athletes are still completing state championships in adjoining states.
 
Set to join the Panthers track and field program next fall are Layla Bonilla, NeVaeh Bryant, Annabelle Coudron, Ashlyn Denney, Hannah Ludwig, Analena Peterson, Marco Reynolds, Becca Robbins and Ashley Wrublik. 
 
Layla Bonilla competed in track and field at Chicago Whitney Young High School.  Bonilla advanced to the IHSA Class 3A State Championships in three events as a senior earning a podium finish in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.  It marked the second straight year she had advanced to the IHSA State Championship in all three events.  Bonilla was fifth in the triple jump with a state final mark of 38'6.25".   She was sixth in both the high jump (5'5.25") and long jump (18'4.25").  Bonilla placed sixth in the state in the triple jump as a junior with a finals jump of 38'1.25".   She made the state championship meet in the triple jump as a sophomore.
 
NeVaeh Bryant competed in track and field at Alton High School.  Bryant advanced to the IHSA Class 3A State Championships in four events as a senior.   She placed seventh in the state in the triple jump with a mark of 38'2.25".  Bryant also advanced to the state championship in the 300-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 meter relays.  As a junior she was fifth in the state in the 300-meter hurdles with a finals time of 44.16 while also competing at the state meet in the triple jump.  She began her prep career at Cardinal Ritter Prep in St. Louis advancing to the Missouri Class 5A State Championships in the 400-meter run as a freshman and sophomore.
 
Annabelle Coudron competed in track and field at Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Coudron placed second as a senior in the D1 Regional 6B in both the 200-meter dash and 4x100 relay.  During the indoor season she placed fourth in the state at the Wisconsin Indoor State Championships with a finals time of 7.80 in the 60-meter dash.  She also helped her 4x200 relay team earn silver at the indoor state championships running the anchor leg as the team posted a time of 1:45.45.  As a junior Coudron was third at the WIAA D1 State Championship in the 100 meters with a time of 12.38 while placing fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.85.
 
Ashlyn Denney competed in track and field at Tolono Unity High School helping her team place second at the IHSA Class 2A State Championships as a senior.  She competed in the 400-meter, 800 meter, 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay at the state meet landing on the podium in all four events.  She ran the anchor leg on the state champion 4x800 relay team that won with a time of 9:19.34.  She was the anchor leg on the 4x400 relay team that placed second in the state with time of 3:59.90.  As an individual she was fourth in the 400 meters (56.97) and fifth in the 800 meters (2:15.20).  She reached the state championship in those same four events as a junior.  She was a four-time state qualifier in the 400-meter run and competed as a freshman at state in the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams.
 
Hannah Ludwig competed in track and field at Borden High School in Indiana.  Ludwig specializes in the pole vault where she won the IHSAA Sectional 29 clearing a height of 11'0".  Her best effort during the season came with a vault of 11'9" at the Sam Sumner Invitational.  Ludwig won her sectional in both her sophomore and junior seasons advancing to the State Championship as a sophomore where she placed 13th clearing a height of 11'0".
 
Analena Peterson competed in track and field at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha, Wisconsin.  As a senior she recently won the D2 Regional 4A in both the 100 meter and 200-meter sprints.  She set personal records in both of those events during this past season with a time of 12.00 in the 100 meters and 24.27 in the 200 meters.  As a junior Peterson placed third in the WIAA D2 State Championship in the 200 meters and fifth in the 100-meter dash.  She was also a state qualifier in both events as a sophomore. 
 
Marco Reynolds competed in track and field at Normal Community High School.  Reynolds won the IHSA Class 3A State Championship in the shot put as a senior with a finals throw of 42'9.50".  It marked the third straight year that she advanced to the state meet in the shot put.  In addition, Reynolds won back-to-back indoor shot put titles as a junior and senior at the Illinois Top Times Class 3A meet.  She won the meet as a senior with a throw of 42'8".  As a senior she also advanced to the state championship in the discus after placing fourth in the Bloomington Sectional.  Her season best mark was 139'1".
 
Becca Robbins competed in track and field at Linton-Stockton High School in Indiana.  Robbins placed first in the IHSAA Sectional 26 meet in both the shot put and discus.  Her winning throw of 40'10.50" in the shot put was a personal record set at the sectional.  She won the sectional discus with a toss of 136'2" after setting a personal record in the event of 147'5" with a championship at the SWIAC Championship.  Robbins advanced to the State Championship meet in the discus all four years with trips to the state meet in the shot put and twice.
 
Ashley Wrublik competed in track and field at Lemont High School.  Wrublik was a multiple time qualifier for the IHSA Class 3A State Championships in the shot put.  As a senior Wrublik placed 10th in the state with a finals mark of 38'1.25".  Her season best effort came with a second place finish at the Lockport Township Sectional with a throw of 39'1".  As a junior she finished 11th at the state meet in the shot put with a finals throw of 38'6.25".  Her season best and personal record was at the Lockport Township Sectional with a throw of 39'2.50" which placed second.
