Abraham Johnson will head to the NCAA Track & Field National Championships this week as the third Panther to make it to the national championship event in Eugene, Oregon since the 2021 season.

Johnson qualified in the triple jump and will jump in the first of two flights on Friday evening with competition set to begin at 7:10 pm (Central).

Johnson landed all three of his jumps at the NCAA Regional over 52' with his best jump of 52'10" which landing him third on the EIU all-time list.

Last year Ramsey Hunt placed 10th in the long jump earning second team All-America honors.  Adam Swanson made the trip in 2021 earning honorable mention All-America honors with a 21st place finish in the 800-meter run.

EIU record holder John Craft was a first team All-American in the triple jump in 1969 when he finished third at the NCAA National Championships.  That same season he was the NCAA College Division National Champion, the first of two titles he won (1967 and 1969).

In addition to Craft, EIU had two other former athletes earn All-America honors at the NCAA College Division level with Toni Ababio in 1975 and 1976 and Charles Hollis in 1977 and 1978.  Ababio won the NCAA College Division National Championship in 1975.

Johnson is one of four athletes from the Ohio Valley Conference that advanced to the NCAA National Championship this year.
