Eastern Illinois women's soccer won its Ohio Valley Conference opener for the first time since the 2018 season as the Panthers collected a 2-0 win over SIUE on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
Â
Returning from an injury that has sidelined her for the last couple of weeks,
Katiebeth May provided the Panthers with the first goal of the day in the closing minutes of the first half.
Â
May sent a shot to the upper right corner in the 43rd minute with the assist provided by
Camylle Graves as she brought the ball forward down the left hand side of the attack zone.
Â
The Panthers made that lead hold up until the final six minutes when
Ella Onstott flicked ahead a turnover in the midfield zone to a breaking
Abby Reinl. Reinl beat back-up goalkeeper Kristen Keller with a shot to the low right that hit the post and ricocheted across to the back of the net. The goal was the 16th of Reinl's career as she moved into a tie for 10th on the Panthers career goals scored list.  Reinl's goal came in the 84th minute.
Â
Ella Kratochvil posted her third straight clean sheet making two saves as EIU improved to 4-4-2 on the season, 1-0 in the OVC.
Â
SIUE fell to 1-8-1 on the year, 0-1 in the OVC. Audrey Roberts and Amanda Dean finished with the two Cougars shots on goal.
