Charles Kellom rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns but Indiana State's defense was able to keep the Eastern Illinois offense in check for much of the game picking up a 38-14 win over the Panthers.

ISU improved to 2-0 while EIU fell to 1-1.

The Sycamores led 17-0 at the half scoring in the first quarter on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Elijah Owens to Plez Lawrence. The second scoring drive was led by Sycamores back-up quarterback Keegan Patterson who ended the day passing for 111 yards and rushing for an Indiana State high of 78 yards.

Patterson found Larry Stephens III on a 4-yard pass to end a bizarre drive that had Indiana State with nine goal line plays before eventually punching in the touchdown.

In the second half Eastern Illinois turned its offense over to its back-up quarterback with Connor Wolf passing for 112 yards on 9-of-13 passing. Wolf helped move the offense down the field with Kellom capping a third quarter and fourth quarter drive with touchdown runs.

Kellom scored with 8:47 to play in the third quarter to cut the ISU lead to 17-7. The Sycamores countered with a long scoring drive to push the lead back out to 17 points at 24-7 with 3:34 to play on a Lawrence 1-yard run.

Kellom's second score came with 10:20 to play in the game on a 2-yard rush up the middle.

Indiana State tacked on two fourth quarter touchdowns to finish off the game.

Saipeti Maiava Jr led the Panthers with 11 tackles with Kaleb Lyons adding seven stops with three tackles for loss. Kimal Clark had ten tackles for lead Indiana State.

Indiana State finished the game with 412 yards of total offense, holding EIU to 239 yards of total offense.
