Meechie White both scored in double figures on Thursday night at Groniger Arena but UT Martin connected for 53.1 percent from the field as the Skyhawks snapped EIU's six-game home win streak with a 76-68 win over the Panthers.
The score was tied 37-37 at the half with both teams shooting over 50 percent from the field.
UT Martin was able to maintain their shooting better than EIU in the second half improving to 16-5 overall, 8-2 in the OVC. EIU fell to 9-13 overall, 5-6 in the OVC.
EIU was held to 28.1 percent shooting in the second half and 39 percent for the game.
The Skyhawks pushed the lead out to nine points in the opening six minutes of the second half on a 3-pointer by Pedro Santos, one of 11 the Skyhawks made in the game.
EIU was able to whittle what had grown to a 15 point lead down to just six points with 43 seconds left on free throws byÂ
Andre Washington. A normally solid free throw shooting team this season, EIU finished just 17-of-29 from the line (58.6 pct), well below its season average of 74.9 pct.
McMorris helped lead the charge with offensive rebounds eventually scoring 15 points with eight rebounds (four offensive).
White scored 14 points and had three steals as EIU scored 20 points off turnovers finishing with ten steals. Â
Nazareth Fisher pulled down ten rebounds but EIU lost the overall rebounding battle by a 42-30 margin. Andrija Bukumirovic led UTM with 21 points, nine rebounds. Damien King added 17 points.Â
