Eastern Illinois women's basketball opened Saturday's game at Groniger Arena with a 6-0 run. Southeast Missouri answered with a 16-0 run as the Redhawks picked the 71-56 win over the Panthers.
Ava Stoller scored 22 points to lead the Panthers offense which made a second half charge.
EIU trailed 35-16 at the half with Stoller scoring ten of her total for the day in the first half.
The Panthers cut the lead down to 14 points with 4:26 to play in the third quarter on free throws by
Ella Lune. Lune scored nine points for EIU.
Carmen Taylor quickly responded for SEMO as she was one of four Redhawks in double figures with 11 points.
Adriana Arroyo came off the bench to start the fourth quarter hitting a pair of three-pointers for EIU as they cut the lead to 15 but could get no closer. Arroyo had eight points.
Kearra Jones had 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead SEMO which improved to 8-13 overall, 4-8 in the OVC. Raissa Nsabua had 14 points and Lexi McCully had 12.
EIU was 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the 4
th quarter as EIU moved to 3-20 overall, 2-10 in the OVC.
