Eastern Illinois opens its final regular season homestand on Saturday as the Panthers host Little Rock for the first of three games at Grongier Arena. EIU will host Morehead State next Thursday and then Southern Indiana on Feb. 21 for EIU Senior Day. EIU continues to make a drive towards locking up a spot in the eight-team OVC Tournament field as the Panthers are 10-16 overall, 6-9 in the OVC. EIU enters Saturday's game eighth in the OVC standings. The Panthers host a Little Rock team that won on Thursday at Western Illinois and is now 10-16 overall, 7-8 in the OVC. Â
JACOBI WITH A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Kooper Jacobi posted his second double-double of the season and 13th of his Eastern Illinois career finishing with 19 points and 14 rebounds on Tuesday at Western Illinois. Jacobi eclipsed the 800 point mark for his EIU career while pushing his EIU career rebounding total to 563 rebounds. Jacobi led the OVC in rebounding last season at 8.9 rebounds per game is looking to become just the 13th player in school history to hit the 600 rebound mark, the last was Ousmane Cisse (2007-10).
TURNER SCORES FROM 3
For the fourth time this season
Preston Turner knocked down four 3-pointers as he matched his season high with 18 points on Tuesday at Western Illinois. Turner has two other 18 point games this season against East-West University and at Morehead State. For the year Turner leads the Panthers with 38 made 3-pointers, connecting at 46.9 percent from long range. He is currently tied for 10th in the OVC in 3-pointers made this season with eleven games with multiple 3-pointers made and eleven double figure scoring games.
BENCH NUMBERS UP AGAINÂ
Eastern Illinois won the battle in bench production again on Tuesday night at Western Illinois as the Panthers scored 30 points off the bench finishing with a slight advantage over the Leathernecks. EIU has won the bench production battle in nine of its last ten games with the lone exception in last Saturday's road win at Tennessee Tech. For the season EIU is averaging 24 bench points per game which ranks fifth in the OVC. EIU has had eight players score in double figures 24 times this season off the bench.
