12 First Place Finishes For Track & Field On Senior Day

Panthers open outdoor season with home success

Eastern Illinois track and field honored the members of its senior class on Saturday evening as the Panthers opened the outdoor season hosting the EIU Big Blue Meet at O'Brien Field.
 
The Panthers turned in 12 first place finishes over the two day meet including a pair of multiple event winners on the men's side.
 
Senior Shawn Lacy doubled up with wins in both track and field events winning the 100-dash with a time of 10.55 and then collecting a first place finish in the javelin with a throw of 193'1".
 
Alex Stout picked up a pair of wins in throws in the Friday portion of the meet winning both the shot put and hammer.  His winning shot put mark was 53'2.75" while his hammer throw landed at 171'5".
 
Freshman Machi Nelson rounded out the double event winners for the men taking home both the long and triple jumps.  Nelson won the long jump at 24'7" while clearing 47'4.25" to win the triple jump.
 
On Friday night the Panthers swept the men's and women's 5,000 meter run.  Cale Smith won the men's race with a time of 15:13.80.  Rylea Borgic won the women's race with a time of 18:05.39.
 
Freshman Ashlyn Denney joined Borgic with a first-place finish for the Panther women taking home first in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:44.02.
 
Layla Bonilla and Abby Venhaus both collected first place finishes in field events for the EIU women.  Bonilla won the high jump at 5'5" with Venhaus the triple jump champion at 39'10".
 
Gavin Snyder was the final first place finisher winning the pole vault at 15'11".
