Alisha Frederick delivered a bases loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand Eastern Illinois a 7-6 walk-off win over Tennessee Tech and a weekend series sweep of the Golden Eagles at Williams Field.
Trailing 6-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning Tennessee Tech was able to tie the game on a 3-run homer by Ella Bishop for her first home run of the season. The home run came with two outs after Sofia Carroll led off the inning with a single to right and Abbee Kleinfelter drew a two-out walk to bring Bishop to the plate.
In the bottom of the inning
Peyton Dwigans singled down the left field line to open the inning with pinch runner
Emily Konkel then inserted at first base.
Chloe Wamboldt beat out an infield hit and
Lizzie Stiverson loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch. Frederick lifted a 3-1 pitch to left center allowing Konkel to tag and score the winning run.
The Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the bottom of third.
Mo Hance laced a two-run single down the left field line while
Viola Smith had a two-run double to the left center gap for the big hits in the inning.
Tennessee Tech chipped away at the lead in the fifth stringing together four straight two out hits with RBI base hits by Jailynn Paderez, Ashley Capelouto and Klinefelter.
EIU tacked on what proved to be a big insurance run in the bottom of the fifth as Dwigans came home on a wild pitch for the Panthers sixth run of the game. Offensively EIU was held to seven hits in the game with Wamboldt the only Panther with multiple hits going 2-for-3.
Karlie McKenzie (7-8) picked up the win in relief, her second win of the weekend as EIU improved to 26-20 overall, 17-3 in the OVC.
Faith Rush (3-3) took the loss in relief, one of four TTU pitchers used in the game. The Golden Eagles dropped to 15-27 overall, 11-10 in the OVC. Four TTU players had two hits led by Carroll and Capelouto with Julie Martin and Brooklyn Stewart joining the two hit party.
