Glen Hesler Award

Created in 1982, the Glen Hesler Award is the most prestigious honor that the athletic department bestows upon an individual each year.  Since 2011 the award has been presented at the Panther Club's Annual Spring Fling Event.

The award is named for Glen Hesler, a long time benefactor for the University, a distinguished alumnus and a former football player in the 1920’s.  Hesler loved Panther Athletics and its coaches.  He raised money to support EIU student-athletes, attended events and worked to help increase the public’s perception of Panther Athletics being first class.

For the first time in program history, Eastern Illinois baseball will play under the lights at Coaches Stadium, a milestone made possible through the generosity of Harry and Gladys Frost. In recognition of their transformational gift and enduring legacy, the facility was renamed Frost Field at Coaches Stadium, honoring a philanthropic couple whose impact continues to shape Eastern Illinois University. On April 11, 2026, the Frosts were awarded the prestigious Glen Hesler Award, which recognizes individuals whose generosity and philanthropic spirit go above and beyond in support of EIU intercollegiate athletics. Pictured with Harry and Gladys Frost is Tom Michael, Director of Athletics.
