Riley McInerney posted one of the best individual cross country season by a Panther men's runner in over a decade as he challenged for the Ohio Valley Conference title and became the first EIU runner to earn All-Midwest Region honors since 2003.
McInerney opened the season winning the EIU Walt Crawford Open with a time of 20:05.06 in the 4-mile race. He would post a second place finish at the Illinois State Invite and a third place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. McInerney twice earned OVC runner of the week honors.
At the OVC Championships he placed fourth to earn first team All-OVC honors. During the season he posted a season best 8K time of 24:28.4 at the Bradley "Pink" Classic which ranks 15th all-time on the EIU career charts. At the NCAA Midwest Regional he posted a 10K time of 30:40.1 which placed 24th at the meet and was the seventh fastest 10K in school history.
McInerney carried over that success from cross country earning first team All-OVC honors in the indoor mile and advancing to NCAA Regional in the steeplechase during the outdoor track season.
