Eastern Illinois hired two new coaches during the 2016-17 school year with both making an immediate impact on their programs despite one of the new hires still being a season away from coaching for the Panthers.
EIU Athletic Director
Tom Michael welcomed back
Kim Schuette to lead the softball program while
Matt Bollant was hired in April to take over as women's basketball head coach.
Schuette returned to EIU in late August after previously coaching for the Panthers from 2006-13. This past season she led the Panthers to a 28-21 record as they finished in the upper half of the OVC standings for the seventh time in Schuette's nine seasons coaching at EIU. She served for three years as the head coach at Purdue between stints at EIU.
Bollant was hired in late April and made a quick splash as he put together a coaching staff, upcoming schedule and signed four players in a matter of weeks after taking over the program. Bollant previously served as the head coach at Green Bay and Illinois taking both programs to post season play at the NCAA Division I level.
