CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.Alexis Miller and Michelle Steinhaus both scored for the second consecutive game, but Southeast Missouri doubled up Eastern Illinois women's soccer with four goals en route to a 4-2 victory Friday evening at Houck Stadium.

The four goals represent the most EIU (6-6-1, 3-2 OVC) has ever surrendered in an Ohio Valley Conference game. Southeast's win ended an EIU six-game unbeaten streak in the series. The Redhawks (8-2-1, 5-0 OVC) have now won six straight matches this year.

Miller tied the game at 1-1 with her third goal of the year, and fifth career, and later assisted on Steinhaus' second-half score.

Southeast Missouri struck early, with Ashley Runion scoring her conference-leading ninth goal of the year in the third minute. Miller tied the game in the 18th minute, but Courtney Alexander gave SEMO a halftime lead by scoring the half's final goal in the 22nd minute.

Steinhaus pulled EIU even again with her team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 53rd minute. Only two minutes and 10 seconds later, however, Alaina Lacopo scored the game-winner.

Both teams were credited with nine shots on goal. Jenny Williams made four saves before being replaced by Kaylin Lorbert in the 75th minute. SEMO goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering, who broke former EIU 'keeper Tiffany Groene's OVC shutout record late last month, was credited with six stops. Both teams also had a team save.

“It was a tough game,” EIU head coach Tim Nowak said. “I thought both teams controlled the game for moments. The difference really was SEMO's ability to capitalize on its chances more than we did. They capitalized when they had good opportunities and we didn't. That's the way soccer goes.”

Steinhaus' goal was the 23rd of her career. Friday's loss, however, was just the third in the 20 games that the senior has scored in.

Kellie Floyd, Kathleen Hayes, Lindsey Wilkening and Ashley Slota played all 90 minutes. Caitlyn Eisenhauer led the reserves with 42 minutes.

The Panthers return to action Friday for a 3 p.m. contest at Tennessee-Martin.
