DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake scored following an early corner kick and added a pair of insurance goals off rebounds to defeat Eastern Illinois men's soccer, 3-0, Wednesday evening in Missouri Valley Conference action.

The Panthers (5-6-2, 2-4 MVC) enjoyed a 7-3 edge in corner kicks but were out shot, 19-12. The Bulldogs (9-4-1, 4-1 MVC), ranked 24th nationally this week in the NSCAA Top 25, limited EIU to four shots on goal.

Sean Molony made six saves in net for the Panthers.

Julien Edwards scored following the game's first corner kick chance in the sixth minute. Hunter Kennedy and Matt Kuhn accounted for the goals off rebounds in the 35th and 79th minutes, respectively.

Molony had made saves on shots by Evan Harrison and Ted Schleisman moments before their teammates capitalized on the rebounds. Kuhn and Kennedy scored against EIU in Des Moines for the second year in a row.

“Our three mistakes on their three goals cost us the game,” EIU head coach Adam Howarth said. “We had lots of chances, but just played poorly overall. It was slop fest, pouring down rain at the start. You can only really do so much in those conditions.”

Alex Harrison, Darby Kehoe, Jerry Maddi, Chris Pearson, Ryan Warren and Kyle Zumski went the distance among the EIU field players. Evan Philpott logged 46 minutes to lead the reserves and was the lone Panther to see action off the bench in the second half.

Four of EIU's six losses this season have come in shutout fashion. Eastern and Drake will square off again Nov. 4 at Lakeside Field.

The Panthers return to action Saturday when they host Creighton at 2 p.m.
