Consolation Round Opponents: UTEP | UALR | UNC
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's basketball will continue Preseason WNIT play in the Little Rock consolation pod, taking on UTEP Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m.
Arkansas-Little Rock is hosting the four-team consolation pod and squaring off against Northern Colorado at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The losers and winners of Friday's games match-up Saturday at 4:30 and 7 p.m., respectively, to conclude the season-opening event. All four games will be played at UALR's
Jack Stephens Center.
Towson was selected to host the other consolation pod in Baltimore. Chicago State, North Carolina A&T and Winthrop are also competing in that pod.
After not being selected to host a consolation pod, EIU will now open its home schedule Sunday, Nov. 29 against Brescia (Ky.). The Panthers play at SMU (Nov. 24) and IPFW (Nov. 27) between concluding their participation in the WNIT and the home opener.
The Preseason WNIT tipped off Friday, Nov. 13. All eight home teams won and advanced to the second round. Eastern lost at No. 3 Ohio State, the highest-ranked team of the 16 participating in this year's event. Elsewhere, UTEP lost at Florida Gulf Coast, Arkansas-Little Rock lost at Oklahoma State, and Northern Colorado lost at New Mexico.
The Panthers have never before played any of the other three teams in the Little Rock consolation pod. Next weekend's games are also believed to be EIU's first ever to be played in the state of Arkansas.
UTEP is a member of Conference USA and was 18-12 last season. Arkansas-Little Rock is a member of the Sun Belt and was 26-7 last season, losing to Murray State in the opening round of the Postseason WNIT. Northern Colorado is a member of the Big Sky Conference and was 12-18 last season.
