Sports Network Top 25 | FCS Coaches Top 25
CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois football held steady in both FCS football polls that were released on Monday afternoon. The Panthers are coming off a bye week and will host UT Martin on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at O'Brien Field. EIU is ranked No. 13 in the FCS Coaches poll and No. 14 in the Sports Network media poll. EIU is 7-2 overall, 5-1 in the OVC.
The two polls were split on this week's No. 1 team as defending national champion and previous No. 1 Richmond lost 21-20 to No. 4 Villanova. In the FCS Coaches poll Montana moved up to No. 1 as the Grizzlies remain the only undefeated FCS team at 9-0. They gathered 16 of the 28 first place Coaches Poll votes with Southern Illinois and Villanova each collecting six to rank second and third.
In the Sports Network poll Southern Illinois jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 after defeating previous No. 9 South Dakota State. The Salukis had 37 first place votes but earned the No. 1 ranking with 3,196 total points. Montana was second collecting 64 first place votes but was edged in total points with 3,172 points. Villanova was a close third with 32 first place votes and 3,161 total points.
Richmond dropped to No. 4 followed by William & Mary, New Hampshire, Appalachian State, South Carolina State and McNeese State in the Top 10.
Northern Iowa moved up to No. 11 with South Dakota State falling to No. 12 in both polls. Eastern Illinois was No. 13 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 14 in the Sports Network rankings. Holy Cross was flipped in both polls landing at No. 14 in the FCS Coaches and No. 13 in the TSN.
Jacksonville State led the remaining schools in 15th followed by Liberty, Stephen F. Austin, Eastern Washington, Prairie View A&M, Lafayette, Florida A&M, Weber State, Delaware, Colgate and Texas State. Texas State was new to both polls climbing in at No. 25. Central Arkansas fell from both polls following a loss to Texas State.
