Racers Run Past Panthers, 3-0

EIU returns to action at Austin Peay on Sunday, Oct. 23

MURRAY, Ky. –
Murray State road three first half goals to a 3-0 victory over the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team on Friday afternoon at Cutchin Field. EIU drops to 5-9-2 overall and 4-3 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
 
Sophie Hargreaves gave the Racers (5-7-3, 2-2-2 OVC) an early 1-0 lead in the third minute when she netted her third goal of the year on a shot from just inside the box off a corner kick.
 
In the 20th minute, Shauna Wicker found the back off the net for the seventh time this season off a diving header in the middle of the box to put Murray State up 2-0. The third goal by the Racers was tallied in the 35th minute by Julie Mooney when she nailed a shot from the left side of the field.
 
Murray State took 10 more shots (19-9) than EIU, including a 12-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Racers also committed 10 more fouls (14-4). Both teams took three corner kicks.
 
Sam Balek paced the Panther attack with two shots in the match. Meagan Radloff and Brenna Vogel both added one shot on goal.
 
Mooney led the Racers with five shots (four on goal) while Hargreaves added three shots (two on goal). Four other Murray State players recorded two shots in the match.
 
Jessica Taldone took the loss in goal for EIU, making five saves and allowing three goals in the first half. Brittany O'Dell made four saves between the pipes in the second half for the Panthers.
 
Yi Du posted her fourth shutout of the season in goal for Murray State. The freshman goalkeeper made two saves in 90 minutes of action.
