CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri State netted the only goal of the match in the 82
nd minute to defeat the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team, 1-0, on Friday evening at Houck Field. EIU falls to 3-7-2 on the year and 2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
Erin Shulman scored the game winner in the closing minutes just outside the net on a cross from Stephanie Palmer to give SEMO the victory and a 3-0 start in OVC play.
The Panthers were outshot by 11 (19-8) in the loss and took five fewer (6-1) corner kicks than the Redhawks. SEMO committed 10 fouls to EIU's nine.
Despite giving up one goal, EIU goalkeeper
Jessica Taldone made a season-high 14 saves between the pipes. SEMO's Ashton Aubuchon made one save in goal and posted her fourth shutout of the season.
Brenna Vogel paced the Panthers with two shots including one shot on goal.
Meagan Radloff also chipped in two shots in the loss.
Shulman led the Redhawks with six shots (four on goal) while Jessie Crabtree chipped in five shots (four on goal).
EIU returns to action at UT Martin on Sunday, Oct. 2. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
