Howarth Announces Men's Soccer Recruiting Class

Men’s soccer program adds eight newcomers for the fall of 2012

2/8/2012 10:23:00 AM

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois head men's soccer coach Adam Howarth has announced the addition of eight newcomers to his 2012 roster.

The class consists of Braiden Acton, Conor Bartuch, Kyle Callender, Garrett Creasor, Anthony Meza, Eric McCausland, Jake Plant and Nick Smith.

“This is another great class of student athletes coming to Eastern Illinois,” said Howarth. “A lot of credit goes to assistant coach Mark Hansen who spent a lot of time working to get all of them placed. We still are looking to add a few players to the class but feel that this is a great start and just like the previous class before them, all of these players will bleed blue for four years.

“Five of the eight players attended our camp or have been to the camp on numerous occasions.  By seeing them at camp and with their respective club and high school teams we have really got to know them very well. Last year was a super class and I feel that this class can be as special as the one last year. We hope that this class joins together well with our current core of players and push to achieve success sooner rather than later.”

He has great size and strength and his communication around the penalty area is very good. Howarth on McCausland...  "Eric has grown up around our program and I am excited to add another McCausland to the EIU Soccer family. Eric has a lot to bring to the table as he is technically very sound and a very good athlete.  Eric really stepped up his leadership role on his high school and club teams this past year. This I believe has helped him become a better player. I have no doubt he will be one of the strongest and fittest players coming into preseason this next fall and I look forward to working with him for the next four years."

Howarth on Plant...   "Jake we were able to identify thru Coach Mike Regan at NIACC and as the season went along, Jake became the vital cog in the NIACC wheel that narrowly missed the chance to go JUCO nationals this past year. Jake has speed, great knowledge and a wonderful left foot. His flexibility as a defender allows us to play him anywhere in the back four as well as a holding midfielder. He will be a great addition to our defensive and midfield core and can impact the team very quickly."

Howarth on Smith...  "Nick through his hard work and dedication has become the atypical student athlete in high school. He has accomplished so much both on and off the field and I feel that he has what it takes to be a fantastic student athlete here at EIU. He is by his own admission, a soccer rat, I know that I will have a hard time getting him off the practice field. He is strong, technically very good and has the ability to hold things together in the middle of the field. He will play an important part in our midfield for years to come."
