TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Eastern Illinois fell at Indiana State, 3-0, on Tuesday (April 10), to snap a five-game winning streak as the Panthers move to 20-16 on the year.
Sophomore
Carly Willert led all Panthers with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while junior
Ally Seplak and newcomer
Bailey O'Dell added additional hits for EIU.
Seplak also added a stolen base, while junior
Abby Wood had a nice day behind the plate, throwing out one ISU baserunner trying to steal second, while also assisting in picking up a Sycamore player at first, with O'Dell and sophomore senior
Amanda Bilina each receiving an assist at shortstop and first base, respectively.
Hanna Mennenga picked up the loss in the circle as the sophomore transfer fell to 9-5 overall behind five innings of work. She registered three strikeouts and three walks, yet was only credited with one earned run.
Team-wise, the Panthers and Sycamores (14-22) both earned four hits, while Eastern was tagged with a pair of errors, which would lead to two ISU runs.
EIU also ended up stranding seven baserunners as compared to three for the Sycamores. Even with the loss at ISU, the Panthers still own the all-time series lead over their I-70 rivals via a 34-25 advantage.
The Panthers will return home this Thursday (April 12), as EIU is set to host instate rival Illinois. The scheduled 5 p.m. single-game will be played at Eastern's Williams Field with a free admission.
The Fighting Illini will come to town sporting a 16-18 overall mark and are currently just 2-7 in Big Ten action.
