Panthers Receiving Votes In Both FCS Polls

EIU climbs to 34th nationally in both polls after 4-0 OVC start

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois football improved to 4-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Panthers won their fourth straight game with a 51-20 win over Tennessee Tech.  The Panthers are now 4-3, the first time over the .500 mark this season.  On Monday, EIU football climbed up the others receiving votes list in both FCS football polls.  EIU is 34th in the nation in both polls ranking as the ninth team also receiving votes.  EIU had seven votes in the FCS Coaches poll and 33 votes in the STATS Media poll.
 
Coastal Carolina was first in the FCS Coaches poll with 15 first place votes.  Jacksonville State was second followed by Illinois State, Chattanooga and Eastern Washington.  North Dakota State, McNeese State, Richmond, James Madison and Sam Houston State rounded out the top ten.  The remaining schools in the Top 25 were led by Fordham in 11th followed by Portland State, South Dakota State, Eastern Kentucky, William & Mary, Harvard, Montana, Montana State, Charleston Southern, North Carolina A&T, Northern Iowa, Dartmouth, Indiana State, Southern Utah and Youngstown State.
 
In the STATS Media poll Jacksonville State was ranked number one with 107 votes.  Coastal Carolina was second with Illinois State in third.  Chattanooga, Eastern Washington, Richmond, North Dakota State, Sam Houston State, James Madison and McNeese State completed the top ten.  The remainder of the Top 25 included Fordham, Portland State, Eastern Kentucky, South Dakota State, Harvard, William & Mary, Montana, Northern Iowa, Montana State, North Carolina A&T, Indiana State, Dartmouth, Western Illinois, Charleston Southern and Youngstown State.
 
Nationally ranked Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky join Eastern Illinois as the three unbeaten teams in the Ohio Valley Conference race.  EKU and JSU play each other this weekend.  Both JSU and EKU visit O'Brien Field for the Panthers two November home games.
 
Coastal Carolina is one of five undefeated teams in the nation joining McNeese State, Harvard, Dartmouth and Dayton.
 
A total of 19 teams enter the Halloween weekend undefeated in conference play.  That number will be shrunk by at least four following the weekend as conference undefeated teams square off – Eastern Kentucky vs. Jacksonville State in the Ohio Valley Conference, Dartmouth vs. Harvard in the Ivy League, Fordham vs. Colgate in the Patriot League and Coastal Carolina vs. Charleston Southern in the Big South.
