Coach Akers 20th Anniversary Celebration Photo GalleryCHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's indoor track and field captured respective team titles at their own Friday Night Special this evening (Feb. 20), as the Panthers combined for 31 Top 3 finishes, including 13 first place marks over the course of the day-long event inside Lantz Fieldhouse.

EIU, with 110.50 total team points, out-paced Southern Illinois (57) and Indiana State (53.50) on the women's side, while the guys earned 83 total points to also finish ahead of ISU (49), SIU (41.50) and fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State (1).
Highlights of the evening included the Panther men going 1-2-3 in both the 60-Meter and 400-Meter Dashes. Â While on the women's side, newcomer
Nyjah Lane led all competitors for wins in both the 60-Meter and 200-Meter sprints.
Combined, the Eastern units also secured five Top 10 time improvements over the course of the meet. Â Junior
Amy Yeoman finished first in the 600-Meter Run with a new personal best mark of 1:37.44, which still ranks #6 in the EIU record books. Â Newcomer
Darneisha Spann's second place mark of 8.76 in the 60-Meter Hurdles improved on her current #7 Panther mark, while junior
Angelica Anyaogu moved up to #5 career-wise with her first place mark of 19-00.00 in the Long Jump.
Meanwhile, senior
Jordan Wallace and sophomore
Bryn Buckwalter each added their name to the Panther records off a 4:59.11 first place finish in the Mile Run and 53-03.50 heave in the Weight Throw, respectively, to now rank #7 and #10 all-time.
For the guys, thrower
David Johansson's 59-02.75 performance in the Weight Throw helped the senior move up to a #5 tie in the career records.
Plus, additional Panther performers also secured over 20 new season-best times in Friday night victory.
EIU will now prepare for next weekend's OVC Indoor Championship which will be hosted by the Panthers on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27-28.
