CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois women's track and field paced all competitors to earn first place honors at the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28), while the Panther men nabbed runner-up team honors following two-day action in Lantz Fieldhouse.

The Panther women finished with 132.5 total team points to lead Tennessee State (101) and Southeast Missouri (98.5) for top three honors, while on the men's side, the Redhawks of SEMO held on for a 181 point advantage for first, followed by the Panther gents' 169.5 points and SIU Edwardsville with 115.

Combined, the two Panther units earned 17 top two finishes over the course of the two-day meet, including nine first place trophies.  Overall, the EIU men and women tallied 15 First Team All-OVC honors and eight Second Team league kudos, led by senior Ephraim Dorsey and redshirt-junior Norvel Mohammed with three First Team All-OVC accolades apiece.

Tom Akers, EIU director of track and field, also earned a pair of post-meet honors as he secured both the Women's Coach of the Year award as well as tying the SEMO head coach for Men's Coach of the Year accolades.

During Saturday's finals, Mohammed, who was named the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Year prior to the year-end event, scampered for two first place wins in both the 200 and 400-Meter Dashes.

Dorsey and Riley McInerney also won their respective 800-Meter and Mile Runs and also secured OVC First Team kudos.  Meanwhile, the EIU foursome of Derek Williamson, Dorsey, Calvin Edwards and Mohammed teamed up to finish ahead of the competition in the 4x400-Meter Relay.

On the ladies side, Bryn Buckwalter earned top honors in the Shot Put to capture First Team All-OVC honors, and the EIU duo of Sadie Lovett and Annemarie Reid went first and second in the Pole Vault, thus also earning all-conference awards.

With the indoor season complete, both Panther units will now begin training for the 2015 outdoor season which gets underway on March 27-28 at the SIU Spring Classic in Carbondale.
