Women's Soccer Ends Road Trip At Chicago State

The EIU women's soccer closes out their four-match road trip at Chicago State Friday at 3 p.m.

PANTHERS CONTINUE ON THE ROAD:  Eastern Illinois women's soccer closes out their season opening road trip this Friday at Chicago State at 3 p.m. The Panthers head to Chicago 0-3 overall after being held scoreless in a 4-0 loss at Illinois State. EIU was held to one shot against the Redbirds coming from sophomore Kate Olson. Following Friday's match at Chicago State the Panther women will head back to Charleston for their home opener Sunday against Indiana State at 12 p.m.

SLOW OUT OF THE GATE: The Panthers are still searching for that elusive first goal of the season as they take on the Cougars having been shut out in their first three matches. This is the third straight season the women's soccer team have been shut out of three of their first four matches. Last season EIU had its first goal of the season come in match number three at Western Illinois. In 2014 the first goal of the season came in match number four against Louisiana Tech.

SHARING THE LOVE: So far this season the Panthers have accumulated seven total shots with seven players on EIU's roster recording one shot a piece. Elisabeth Held, Olson, Kathleen MacKinnon, Ellie Corrigan, Sarah DeWolf, Carrie Caplin, and Emma Scaro have all had one shot throughout the first three matches. Of the Panther's seven shots five have been on goal coming from Held, Olson, Corrigan, DeWolf, and Scaro.

STAR ON THE RISE: Freshman Sara Teteak has started all three matches for the Panthers to begin her young career at EIU. Teteak has given up seven goals in the three-match span, but has accumulated 34 saves. In EIU's last match this past Sunday against Illinois State Teteak had a whopping 19 save performance to set a new single-match high.  Teteak averages 11.3 saves per game so far in the season.

FRESH FACES MAKING A NAME:  Teteak is not the only freshman striving to make a name for herself on the Panther roster this year. Five other freshman, including red-shirt freshman Corrigan, have earned at least two starts during the early portion of this season. Lindsey Carlson and Angela Corcoran along with Teteak have started all three games so far for the Panthers while Henar Urteaga, Corrigan, and DeWolf have started two of the three matches.

SERIES RECORD: Eastern Illinois and Chicago State will be meeting on the pitch for the 3rd time. The Panthers are undefeated against Chicago State having won the last two years in a row including last season's 4-1 victory on Lakeside Field.

HEAD COACH: Kiki Lara is in his first season as the EIU women's soccer head coach. Lara was hired as the men's soccer head coach in 2015 and was promoted to director of soccer overseeing both programs in the spring of 2016. Lara is a 2003 graduate of Incarnate Word and played in the USL First Division for five seasons. He came to EIU following a stint as the assistant men's soccer coach at Dayton.
